Day 20 – Swansea – Boxing Day

I did a fair chunk of the puzzle last night, and when Lach came back from the bathroom he had to persuade me to stop, as it wasn’t going to be finished before bed. I was really enjoying it, although a puzzle by minimal light is challenging, especially when I keep picking the box up to look closely and Lach is trying to look as well (he calls me a box thief!).

After a day of festivities yesterday we decided for a quiet day today with some downtime and some hope that a couple of wineries would be open, seeing as today would be our last chance for us to visit the wineries in the Freycinet region. The girls were tired after yesterday so woke us at 7am and the sun was out – which was better than forecast.

We ventured out to get some essentials to get us trough the last few days of our time in Tasmania – bread milk etc – then drove to see if we could find any vineyards which were open. The only one which we were successful at was Devils Corner. A great location overlooking Great Oyster Bay, and to our surprise a couple of nice wines. The most surprising was their basic Chardonnay 2016 (stainless steel with 7 months on old oak), a really good ‘quoffer’. Lach was researching bottle shop prices at the same time we were tasting, as Devils Corner can be purchased at most shops. Sure enough we can buy cheaper in Sydney than at the cellar door. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to visit Milton or Springvale vineyards this visit (a good excuse to come back).

We headed back to the caravan park for some lunch and an afternoon of girls playing with their presents and also the girl at the next door caravan, Lach and I managed to get an hour of puzzle time in, with Audrey and Ava both coming in and lending a helping hand once in a while. WE FINISHED! Lach even gave me put the last piece in. Very satisfying. I would strongly recommend the Portapuzzle for anyone wishing to do puzzles, but don’t have the room to leave them out. I literally dropped our puzzle board with 50% of the puzzle complete from the top step of our van to the floor and it bounced on a corner and landed upside down – Lach and I looked at each other with knowing eyes of ‘no way’. Sure enough it stayed together just as I had packed it away 5minutes beforehand.

The girls went for a swim with their friend, even though the wind was very strong, and they lasted about 10minutes before demanded a hot shower. Luckily the showers here are deliciously hot with a handheld shower head, so the girls warmed up well and then played hide and seek around the park.

Lach is feeling much better today, I would say 98%, so we had a bottle of Gala Rose 2018 with our steak sandwich for lunch – I have missed my lunchtime wine over the last few days and so glad he is feeling better. We then planned the vineyards we want to visit up in the Tamar Valley as well as the order to ensure we can visit as many as possible (making up for lost time) before heading back to the mainland in a few days.

Audrey only turned into a Unicorn once today, and Ava didn’t turn into a cow – I wonder whether tomorrow will see the return of the Onesies?

Bedtime came and Audrey wanted Ava to read to her a couple of the books she got for Christmas, so they climbed into Audreys bunk and read quietly. Ava then went down to her bed for some additional reading time to start one of her new christmas chapter books.

  1. Just heading off to bed in Brisbane after a late afternoon nap after lunch at Stokehouse which was delightful followed by a game or three of Balderdash with Hamish, Kirsty and Linda followed by a late snack of delicious left overs.
The puzzle looked amazing and such an achievement to finish it then to have it fall but not go into hundreds of pieces.
It is so lovely to see the girls bonding and becoming such good friends.
Hope you find suitable Cellar doors to sample a few wines tomorrow.
Love reading your daily adventures and think of the tome we shared in the Barossa tow years ago.
    Sweet dreams, love you all
